Harris' 9-month appointment!

Harris had to catch up on his 6-month shots plus have the regular flu and H1N1 vaccines, so he was not the happiest camper at this pedi appointment. But he's healthy and will likely stay that way at this point, so that's good!

Stats: 21 lbs, 6 oz. (50ish-th percentile), 29 inches (75th percentile), noggin is 47 3/4 (97th percentile, ha!).

He is almost exactly where Claire was at this age. They have very different eating habits at this point, so the weight is different - at 9 months Claire was 25 lbs, 5 oz. but also 29 1/4 long. Her head was bigger - 48.9 cm. I am pretty sure all of her stats were above the girls' curve, lol!

All's good, though.

This Summer....

Well, I'm irked. I just had a lovely summary of our summer typed up and was loading some pictures....and Explorer crashed. SO. I'll have to redo it when I have some more time.

Harris is growing like crazy and doing well. He's figured out crawling but really wants to stand up. He's pulled up to his knees so far, but mostly I catch him on all 4's wondering what to do next.

Claire's loving preschool and staying healthy, which is nice. One huge recent accomplishment: she's potty-trained!! She also moved into a big-girl bed last week. No more crib for my baby!

Puddles, Ice Cream and Rolling Over

We went back out to Bernheim Forest on Sunday and walked around a lake there. It's a 1.3 mile trail, Claire probably hiked a half-mile, she was a trooper. Ice cream (and a warddrobe change after a water bottle incident) was definitely in order afterward. Today it rained and we have some very nice puddles in our driveway, so Claire did some puddle-jumping, first with boots, then without. It seems without is more enjoyable.

Harris turned 5 months old today! He gave Mommy and Daddy the gift of sleeping through the night - he woke up at 5:45 for a bottle then went back to sleep until 7:30. Good boy. He also decided today was as good a day as any to master rolling over. So he did it most of the afternoon. He also did it on the kitchen counter after his bath (I was holding him) just to give Mommy a scare. There is video of him on the counter as well as Claire puddle-jumping and hiking on the bottom left of the blog.

Happy 4 Months, Harris Caldwell!

Harris is 4 months old today! In honor of his month-day, Claire made him a delish dinner of plastic turkey and egg. In a move wise beyond his 120 days, he (wisely) declined the offer. The gesture was appreciated, though. Master Harris is improving on his tummy time - pushing up pretty well, though still with quite a bit of attitude about it. He looves his new exersaucer, and is getting stronger about sitting up and reaching for things just in a week of having it. Tonight he rolled over onto his side - quite accidently, but there you go.

Kentucky Railroad Museum and Lincoln's Birthplace

Suffice to say (for now) the railroad museum was a bigger hit with Claire than Lincoln's birthplace. I suspect we will be revisiting the museum with Grandpa Springsteen a few times - it is pretty cool and not far away.

Louisville Zoo - May 5

As you can see the Orangatun's were particularly cooperative at the zoo today! Claire kept yelling, "Hi Big Monkey!" at the poor guy/girl when she was nose-to-nose. I think she wanted to hug him (her?). Not many pictures, it was a Tuesday so it was just Mommy + 2. Harris was awake most of the time and a sweetie per usual.

We also saw/chased peacocks, saw a crocodile yawn, were annoyed by the loudness in the penguin room and saw the tiger's noggin but he wasn't willing to come down off his ledge to visit.

A day in our life...

I was getting Claire a new shirt (thanks to a PB&J incident) when she got my purse, sunglasses and keys and told Ray, "Bye!" At dinner she decided to play peek-a-boo with her clean shirt... after dinner she read a book about farm animals to Elephant. Harris had a nice bath and was Mr. Happy afterward. He decided he needed to eat like he is going to hibernate tonight before bedtime. Looks like another growth spurt is looming...

Bubbles! (yes, we do this alot)

Claire had an afternoon of mega-bubbles the other day. We haven't managed to find the Bubble BBQ in the boxes yet. There are a few more boxes to go through, so it will turn up...this was fun, though - a little splattery, but fun.

Easter, or thereabouts

We had a rather non-traditional Easter - no church or egg hunt, but the kids had baskets and Claire got her first basketball goal! We went for a long walk along the lake next to our subdivision - very fun. Rosa and Claire ran themselves ragged. Harris slept the whole time. We call that a successful outing! Later Harris and Ray watched the Masters...ok, Ray watched...

Noses

Just some random pics - Harris was doing some tummy time which turned into "clean my nose, Mommy" time and then Claire decided she needed some floor time too....and so it begins....

I think they could have the same noses though...

We're here! or, rather, there....? (Kentucky)

We now live in Kentucky! We found a great house with a play thing already on it - its a little run down, just a swing, slide and a climbing rope, but we'll order some accessories and get it rolling soon. Plus the neighbors have a massive one just a few feet away that is open to the neighborhood kids, so there are definitely options. Claire already pines for "my paygound" when we're more than 20 yards from the house.

Harris Caldwell is doing great. He caught Claire's puke bug the week before we moved, but recovered nicely and is now chugging bigger bottles on a regular basis. He is so close to sleeping through the night we can just taste it, so to speak. He's got the last bit of a stuffy nose and I think that's all that's standing between us and 9 hours. Cross your fingers this happens soon.

We have 29473 boxes to deal with, and they will be dealt with...eventually. I hope to finish the kitchen and the kids' rooms tomorrow and then start prioritizing everything else. Maybe by September. Its already really pretty here and I don't want to spend too much time inside. Its way too much fun to get outside and play with Claire. I definitely like unemployment in the spring/summer.

The 2009 Bubble Season has Begun!

This weekend was beautiful, so we managed to get to the park both mornings. Sunday afternoon Claire declared that it was warm enough for bubbles. At one point Rosa wandered off the stoop to walk herself, and Claire was trying to call her back by telling her what she was missing, "Bubbles, Roa, BIG bubbles!"

We noticed how much her vocabulary has grown from the last time we did bubbles in the winter ("bubbles!" was about it when we did bubbles) to full sentences telling us how big they were, where they hit her ("it hit my face!") and other important tidbits ("i sit with mommy.")

Sunday lunch was a classic PB&J, two-fisting it, per usual.

Harris Caldwell enjoyed some of the show from inside the door. Claire was very happy to introduce him to bubbles as well. He's starting to smile a little here and there, and is definitely at the cooing stage to let us know what's up.
